Hair is an integral part of our body, but not everyone thinks about their unique features. Here are interesting facts about hair!

Fact # 1. Length of hair life. The life of a single hair lasts from two to four years on average. Eyelashes live about three months. The first hairs appear even in the mother’s womb on 4-5th month of pregnancy.

Fact # 2. Coverage. Hair covers our body almost completely -  95%, it is not found only on the palms and soles. Even if it seems that your skin is perfectly clean of hair, under the microscope you can see a lot of tiny hair that is not visible to an eye. The darker the skin, the thicker the body hair. A man spends an average of 5 months of his life on shaving.

Fact # 3. Hair properties. A hair consists of 97% protein and 5% water. If it is healthy, it is able to hold a weight of up to 100 grams! It can stretch to 1/5 of its length. Hair absorbs moisture. A woman's hair is thinner than a man's one.

Fact # 4. About red hair. Only 4% of the world's population have red hair. Most red-haired people live in Norway - 13%.

Fact # 5. About hair follicles. On 0.1 sq inches (1 sq cm) of the scalp there are about 300 hair follicles. 90% of them are in the active phase - at the stage of growth, and 10% - at the stage of dying and falling out. If the second number begins to grow - a person gets bald.

Fact # 6. About the hair growth. This is the second, after the bone marrow, the fastest growing tissue. A short hair grows about 0.4 inches (12 mm) a month, a long hair grows 0.23-0.26 inches (6-7mm). The hair practically does not grow at night. In warm weather, it grows faster. Women hair grows slower, than men hair. The owner of the longest hair in the world is a man. He lives in Vietnam, the length of his hair is 236 inches (6 meters), he did not cut it for about 30 years!
 
Fact # 7. About hair loss. On average, about 80-150 hairs per day should fall out. Asian people are the least inclined to baldness. Every time a hair falls out, a new one grows in the same place, and it can happen up to 30 times.

Fact # 8. Secrets that hair can tell. Hair examination can show if its owner took drugs or other substances,  what food its owner had  in the previous month, in which region the owner lived. But the owner’s sex is almost impossible to determine.

Fact # 9. About the hair functions. Why do people have a lot of hair on their heads? This is because the skin in this area doesn’t have any protection at all. Hair performs protective function. It protects the head from cold and overheating.

Fact # 10. About epilation. The people of Ancient Egypt were the first to start removing their unwanted hair. Alexandria was the first city where epilation appeared.
